![]() ![]() One of the benefits of this hike is that it is never super crowded even during the busiest months in the park. You can access Johns Lake Loop at its trailhead east of Lake McDonald Lodge–it’s one of the quietest of the Glacier trails too! Do plan on bringing your bug spray since mosquitoes are common. While the lake itself is nothing to write home about, this loop does offer a scenic walk through the woods and some views of stunning waterfalls and offers easy entry from West Glacier. Glacier tends to be best when you can get up as early as possible. If you have someone who has limited mobility, then you will want to park in the Avalanche Campground parking lot–just know that it can fill up fast all day long and it can take some time to find a spot if you aren’t one of the first ones in the area. You can access it via the Trail of the Cedars/Avalanche Lake parking lot after the West Entrance and past West Glacier. Offering a canopy of cedar trees and amazing smells, it’s a great introduction to the park. It’s also wheelchair accessible for much of the trail and perfect option for visiting Glacier with kids.
